Lotus came to the APL as a tiny kitten, just three months old and weighing just over two pounds. She came in with an adult cat. The pair had been living under a porch on Cleveland’s East Side.
However, Lotus was no ordinary kitten. She had badly malformed back legs, which caused her to walk on her knees. Luckily for Lotus, an APL staff member was familiar with an organization called “Leggings for Life,” which provides crocheted leggings for animals who cannot walk normally.
These leggings provide a cushion that prevents sores from developing on these special-needs animals. When the APL staff member contacted Wendy, the founder of Leggings for Life, she got much more than leggings for Lotus!
Wendy had one cat with backward legs and was looking for a companion for her cat. Soon Lotus was on her way to her new home in Michigan, where her new mom reports she spends her days playing with her feline sister and brothers and “zooming around the house in her leggings.”
